Your Study Programme

Advanced Level Programme

An two-year qualification programme, which will typically consist of 3 subjects. This could be 3 A levels, 3 vocational courses or a combination of A Levels and vocational courses. Alternatively, if suitably qualified, students can choose to study the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Where a Grade 4 at GCSE Maths or English has not already been achieved, this will be included in a student’s programme of study.

All students are expected to be full-time and on an appropriate study programme of at least 16 hours per week.

In addition to your course study time, your programme will consist of:

Tutorial which is compulsory for all students and monitors students’ progress and their progression to their next steps.
Planned Study Time
Additional Learning Support (if needed)
Careers and university advice and guidance
Work Experience – We will also support you to find a work placement to increase your confidence and employability. It is a mandatory requirement to complete a minimum of 21 hours work experience in Year 1 as part of your programme of study.
Enrichment Activity, (compulsory for all Year 1 students) such as one of our weekly clubs, societies, visits, work experience and work-related activities
Participation in additional support programmes, such as our Aspire Programme for those students aspiring to study at Oxford, Cambridge or a Russell Group university, or our MedVetDent programme for those students wishing to pursue careers in medicine, veterinary science or dentistry.

Foundation Level Programme

A one-year qualification programme which can be offered to those students who do not meet the entry requiremens of an Advanced Programme. This will comprise of a minimum of three courses, which could be a mix of GCSEs and Level 2 vocational courses.

English and Maths are compulsory and will be included in the above programme if a Grade of at least 4 at GCSE has not already been achieved. This may be GCSE or, if less than a Grade 3 has already been achieved, a stepping stone qualification or an ESOL qualification.

All students are expected to be full-time and on an appropriate study programme of at least 16 hours per week.

Additional Learning Support (if needed)
Careers and further education advice and guidance
Enrichment Activity (compulsory), in one of our weekly clubs, societies, visits, work experience and work-related activities

Providing the necessary entry requirements are then achieved, this will facilitate progression onto an Advanced Level Programme the following year.

Your Timetable

The college day runs from 8.40am – 4.10pm for most students. In addition, a few classes are scheduled between 4.20pm – 5.05pm on Mondays and Wednesdays only. Each timetable is individual and you will not be timetabled for all sessions – the examples below give an idea of what different timetables might look like.

Your only obligation is to be in College for your timetabled sessions. However, many students find it easier to think of their non-contact periods as part of the College day and use this time to remain in College for independent study. The College offers free Wi-Fi so you can bring in your own laptops or tablets to work on, or use the library or open access IT facilities.

Gateway to Foundation

A one-year Gateway Programme for students who have recently relocated to the UK and for whom English is a second language. Students will need to undertake an ESOL assessment to determine their suitability. Students will typically have GCSE equivalent qualifications of Grade 3s or above.
