Sport (Foundation Level)

If you are passionate about sport, physical activity, health or fitness then this is the subject for you.

We offer a broad range of courses encompassing areas of study from sport science, psychology and social issues, to sports coaching, leadership and fitness.

Students who do not meet the entry for an advanced programme can elect to study Sport at Foundation Level (Level 2), this qualification comprises part of the Foundation Level study programme and includes study of a range of topics from health and fitness, sports leadership, fitness training and practical sport.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

BTEC Award (4 units) 

• Fitness fpr sport and excercise
• Practical sports performance
• Training for personal fitness
• Leadership in sport

BTEC Certificate (8 units)

The 4 units above, plus

• The mind and sports performance
• Anatomy and physiology
• Running a sports event
• Lifestyle and well-being

This course runs for one year and works as a pathway onto an Advanced Level 3 programme. Students can re-sit their Maths, if necessary, alongside this programme.

What are the Standard Entry Requirements?

CourseGeneral GCSE Grade minimum entry requirements
IB Diploma or 4 A levelsA mixture of at least 7 GCSEs at Grades 9 – 6 including English, Maths and Science.
3 A LevelsA mixture of at least 6 GCSEs at Grades 9 – 4 including English.
A mixed programme at Level 3, to include at least one vocational courseA mixture of at least 5 GCSEs at Grades 9 – 4 including English.
Foundation Level (Level 2)At least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3, including English. At least one GCSE should be at Grade 4 or above.
Any student who has not achieved a grade 4 or C in GCSE English and/or Maths must include further study of these subjects in their programme.
