This week saw Varndean Sixth Form College hold its annual STEM FEST, a week-long programme designed to inspire students through direct engagement. The event saw talks from leading professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Specialist guest speakers included a representative from the Royal Astronomical Society, a veterinary surgeon, an A&E consultant from Worthing Hospital, Sussex Police crime scene investigators, computer scientists from the University of Surrey, the University of Brighton’s Adult Nursing admissions team, and a former oncology and end-of-life nurse. Each speaker provided insight into their professional journey, the nature of their current roles, and the skills required within their respective fields.
Although primarily aimed at students studying STEM subjects, the event was also open to students in related areas such as Health & Social Care, Psychology, Geography and Environmental Science. STEM FEST continues to serve as a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of potential career pathways at a crucial stage of their academic development.
