Higher Sports Leaders

The Level 3 Certificate in Higher Sports Leaders course is aimed at any students wishing to develop their leadership and sports coaching skills to support the growing numbers of sports leaders who make sport such a vibrant part of community life today.

Students will learn how to plan and lead activity sessions and run sports events. They will work with children of different ages and abilities and support community sport activities. The course is a mixture of theory and practical activity that includes sports leading in the college environment, coaching in a range of local schools and volunteering at community clubs. This course links perfectly to voluntary work and participation in sport outside of college.

Experience of leading or coaching in school or the community or a passion to enter this pathway is essential.

How The Course is Assessed

Assessed practical sessions, voluntary leadership hours and written leadership logbook.

Career Pathways

Progression to level 1 & 2 Governing Body Sport Qualifications, such as the FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football. UCAS points are associated with this qualification and students go onto study PE teaching & sports coaching degrees at University.

Transferable Skills

Teaching, coaching and leadership skills, organisation and communication skills.

Other Information

This is a Level 3 course for students to add to their programme of study in Year 2. Students will be expected to undertake 30 hours of volunteering across the year in a range. The College can help in setting these placements up.

What are the Standard Entry Requirements?

3 A LevelsA mixture of at least 6 GCSEs at Grades 9 – 4 including English.
A mixed programme at Level 3, to include at least one vocational courseA mixture of at least 5 GCSEs at Grades 9 – 4 including English.
Foundation Level (Level 2)At least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3, including English. At least one GCSE should be at Grade 4 or above.
Any student who has not achieved a grade 4 or C in GCSE English and/or Maths must include further study of these subjects in their programme.
