We currently have a vacancy for a 3D Design Instructor/Technician to support the Visual Arts team on Fridays. This role involves supporting teachers to resource and run lessons but also some practical/safety demonstrations to groups or individual support 1 to 1 helping students with their design work. You will be a practical, adaptable individual, who has the ability to organise and maintain workshop machinery and equipment both traditional and digital. You will also have a working knowledge (or willingness to learn) of CAD processes – 3D printing and laser cutting. Previous experience in working in a technical support role with students in a workshop is essential.

Please note, more hours may be available from September 2026, once student numbers are confirmed.

The Dance Department at Varndean Sixth Form College is highly regarded both locally and nationally, achieving consistently strong outcomes and progression rates. A significant proportion of students progress to specialist higher education and conservatoire training in dance and the performing arts.

Dance is delivered through the BTEC Level 3 qualification, with achievement and retention rates consistently above national averages. Teaching takes place in a well-equipped studio environment that supports both technical and creative development. The department actively encourages experimentation, critical thinking and interdisciplinary practice. Staff and students explore contemporary dance through diverse movement vocabularies, styles and collaborative approaches. Students regularly progress to leading institutions, including The Place, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and other university dance programmes.

These highly regarded courses combine practical artistic experimentation with the critical study of contemporary practice and art history. Both are taught as exploratory and experimental disciplines, in which students are nurtured and challenged to produce ambitious, highly individual work. Our teachers foster a rigorous and creative approach, encouraging independence, critical thinking, and confident visual expression. 

The successful candidate will be supporting students to develop creative, analytical, and technical skills. This includes teaching aspects of contextual studies, visual analysis, and the investigation of diverse artistic traditions, alongside guiding students in the planning, creation, and evaluation of original portfolios.

Expertise in traditional and contemporary media, ranging from drawing and painting to fabric manipulation and garment construction, is essential. Experience of supporting students with sustained practical investigations and the specific coursework requirements of the AQA specification would be particularly valuable. Candidates with experience in only one discipline, or those who wish to teach on only one of the courses, are encouraged to apply as we welcome job-share arrangements.

Varndean College is a popular and successful sixth form college in Brighton and Hove, offering a wide range of A Level, vocational and International Baccalaureate courses to around 2,000 students aged 16–19. The college has a strong reputation for high-quality teaching, an inclusive ethos and excellent progression to higher education and employment.

Psychology sits within the School of Business and Social Sciences, alongside subjects such as Business, Economics, Law, Politics and Sociology. The Psychology and Criminology provision is a large and popular area of the curriculum, with around 500 students studying across A Level Psychology, IB Diploma Psychology and the Level 3 WJEC Diploma in Applied Criminology.

We are seeking enthusiastic and qualified teachers to join our Psychology team and teach on our A Level Psychology course. A number of posts are available, and we welcome applications from both full-time and part-time teachers. These opportunities have arisen due to continued growth in student numbers and the increasing popularity of Psychology at the college.

For candidates with the appropriate experience and leadership skills, there will also be the opportunity to apply for the role of Programme Leader for Psychology, providing academic leadership for A Level Psychology and the IB Diploma Psychology course, which is coordinated by an experienced member of staff within the team.
