For those coming from further afield, from the north you can alight at Preston Park station which is several minutes walk from the college. Coming from east or west, trains come into Brighton station with frequent connections to Preston Park. Alternatively you can walk down Queen’s Road outside the station, turn left down North Street, and catch the 5B or 26 bus service.
Directions from London/North
From the M25, at Junction 7, take the M23 south. At Pease Pottage (Crawley) his becomes the A23. Carry on the A23 until you reach the outskirts of Brighton. After passing the "Welcome to Brighton" boundary signs, carry on beneath the A27 Brighton bypass and continue over the roundabout. After half a mile, having passed Withdean Park on the leff, turn up Varndean Road and then left at the top into Surrenden Road. Varndean College is on the right.
Directions from Worthing/West
Take the A27 bypass eastbound to Brighton. Cross over the A23 and take the second exit marked Hollingbury Industrial Estate/Ditchling. Continue through the small roundabout to the crest of the hill, then turn right over the bridge (signposted Hollingbury). Continue south on Ditchling Road. Just past the golf course turn right into Surrenden Road. Turn immediately left at the next T junction continuing on Surrenden Road. Varndean College is on the left.
Directions from Lewes/East
Take the A27 bypass westbound to Brighton. Pass the University of Sussex on the right and follow the signs to Brighton. When the road divides continue straight on to the first set of traffic lights. Turn right onto Coldean Lane. Follow the road to the top of the hill. Turn left over the bridge onto Ditchling Road (signposted Hollingbury). Continue south on Ditchling Road, passing the golf course on the left, then turn right onto Surrenden Road. Turn left at the junction, continuing on Surrenden Road. Varndean College is on the left.
Unfortunately parking on campus is restricted to staff only. However there are plenty of spaces on nearby roads for students' cars.
Adult Education Students attending evening classes (after 6pm) should find that there are plenty of parking spaces.
The 5B runs from Hangleton in Hove, via Old Shoreham Road, Sackville Road, Blatchington Road, Grand Avenue, Church Road, Western Road, North Street, Old Steine, Preston Circus, Stanford Avenue, Beaconsfield Villas and Surrenden Road. The bus runs every 10 minutes during the day and stops outside the college gates.
The 55 bus runs from Mile Oak and Hangleton to Hollingbury via Old Shoreham Road, Seven Dials and then the same as the 5B from North Street. The 88 bus provides a morning and afternoon link from Hollingbury, Coldean, Moulsecoomb and the Lewes Road, stopping right outside the college..
The 46 and 46A run from Southwick, Portslade and Hove to Hollingbury via Western Road, Old Steine, London Road, Open Market and Ditchling Road. The 26 starts from Churchill Square and then operates the same way as the 46 and 46A on to the college. The 56 bus links Patcham and Hollingbury with Seven Dials and the Old Shoreham Road and stops in Ditchling Road. Service 94 provides a service between Varndean and Queens Park.
Easy Access within College too
Varndean College is the only college in the Brighton area to allow wheelchair users easy access to all areas and levels of the college buildings via ramps, walkways and lifts. The college has recently been given a disability award in recognition of the work which has been done to facilitate wheelchair access.
