Two teams of highly motivated A Level Law Year 2 students competed in a mock trial this week before real magistrates who visited us from the Brighton Magistrates Court. The College’s longstanding relationship with the Court meant that the Law Team could host three magistrates who were happy to sit through two trials with students playing the parts of witnesses, jury members, barristers, solicitors and legal advisors; there was even a court artist!
Varndean Sixth Form College’s new court room itself was a big hit with the magistrates, one of whom mentioned that at one point they had forgotten that they weren’t in a real courtroom in front of real barristers! This was a credit to our students who prepared and presented the case and turned up in court dress ready to argue their case.
