Varndean Sixth Form College has secured up to £4.44 million of government funding to create a new Skills and Business Building, representing a major investment in education for young people across Brighton & Hove and Sussex.
The funding, awarded through the Government’s Post-16 Capacity Fund, will enable the College to create nine new teaching rooms, including dedicated space for business education, while transforming part of its campus by replacing temporary teaching accommodation with high-quality permanent facilities.
The new building will provide modern teaching and learning spaces and support Varndean Sixth Form College in continuing to offer a broad and ambitious education and a breadth of opportunities to young people from across the city and wider Sussex area.
Donna-Marie Janson, Principal and CEO of Varndean Sixth Form College, said:
“This is fantastic news for Varndean Sixth Form College and for young people across Brighton & Hove and Sussex. It is a significant investment in their education and in the opportunities we can continue to provide.
At Varndean Sixth Form College, we are proud to provide young people with an ambitious, high-quality education and the opportunities they need to flourish. This funding means we can invest in new, permanent teaching spaces for our students, while continuing to offer the breadth of education and opportunity that is so important to us.
We are incredibly proud that this investment will benefit not only the students who are with us today, but generations of young people who will come through the College in the years ahead.”
The new Skills and Business Building is expected to open to students in August 2028.
