Varndean Sixth Form College celebrated Green Week from 9-13 March.
Organised by the Carbon Literacy Qualification group, we welcomed Dr Will Lock from the University of Sussex, who delivered an excellent talk “Climate Justice – Beyond Carbon Footprints”, and later in the week we heard from Dr Olivia Taylor, also from the University of Sussex, who spoke to our Geography students about studying climate change at university. It was a fascinating talk that explored the complexities of climate change beyond A Level and gave students valuable insight into where studying Geography at university can lead.
Other events included The Big Green Quiz on Tuesday and a full vegan menu in our café on Wednesday.
To complete the event, on Friday our CLQ group showed off their fantastic baking skills with a delicious vegan bake sale, highlighting how plant-based foods can help reduce our carbon footprint while still tasting amazing! Together they raised over £50 for the Real Junk Food Project in Brighton helping tackle food waste in the local community.
