Throughout February, Varndean Sixth Form College is celebrating LGBT+ History Month. This year’s theme is Science & Innovation and Schools OUT, the founders of UK LGBT+ History Month, has chosen five scientists and innovators recognising the contributions of LGBT+ people to the field:

• Barbara Burford – Medical researcher who helped establish NHS equality & diversity guidelines
• Charles Beyer – Locomotive engineer and founding member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers
• Elke Mackenzie – Botanist researching lichens in Antarctica
• Jemma Redmond – Biotechnologist developing 3D bioprinting for tissues and organs

Our College library will be highlighting some of the books and resources available – celebrating the people behind the progress.
