Film Production (Foundation Level)

This course provides a practical introduction to film production, alongside a clear understanding of how the film and media industry operates.  You will develop your skills through guided production work, while also completing a substantial research project into the film industry.

This course is ideal if you want to:

  • Develop practical skills in filming and editing
  • Understand how the film and media industry works
  • Learn how to turn ideas into finished video work
  • Build confidence working both independently and in teams

 

COURSE CONTENT

You will cover both industry knowledge and practical production skills:

  • How the film and TV industry is structured
  • Key roles and processes within production
  • How to research and present written work
  • Camera, sound and basic editing techniques
  • How to plan and deliver short video projects

You will also be required to travel independently off-site without supervision for filming moving image work.

Luke Perrett

Studied: Creative Media Production, English Language
Progression: Brighton Film School

Luke is currently in his 2nd and final year at Brighton Film School, where he attended straight after leaving Varndean College. He mainly specialises in sound and composing, however there is some directing too. He has composed for a handful of short films as directed, a few music videos, documentaries, as well as short films. Afterwards, he plans to look for work in the industry mainly as a sound designer or work on music videos.

Entry Requirements

Standard Foundation Level entry requirements

No previous experience is required, although an interest in film or moving image production is essential, plus a willingness to engage with both practical and written work.

Assessment

Assessment is 100% coursework across two units. You will be assessed through: A written research project (majority of the course) Practical video production work Coursework portfolio There are no exams. Success depends on your ability to complete both written and practical work to a consistent standard.

What are the Standard Entry Requirements?

CourseGeneral GCSE Grade minimum entry requirements
IB Diploma or 4 A levelsA mixture of at least 7 GCSEs at Grades 9 – 6 including English, Maths and Science.
3 A LevelsA mixture of at least 6 GCSEs at Grades 9 – 4 including English.
A mixed programme at Level 3, to include at least one vocational courseA mixture of at least 5 GCSEs at Grades 9 – 4 including English.
Foundation Level (Level 2)At least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3, including English. At least one GCSE should be at Grade 4 or above.
Any student who has not achieved a grade 4 or C in GCSE English and/or Maths must include further study of these subjects in their programme.
